banksy is an amazing artist

banksy is an amazing artist. He works mostly as a graffiti artist using stencils. He is amazing. He does a lot of political pieces. Political or not, they are thought provoking.

This weekend, I was walking around London and saw his work. It makes me really happy when I walk around London and spot his work.

I saw this one on Sunday.

UK’s most famous Lane! Sunday September 11th 2005, 12noon – 6pm

Once again London’s most famous Lane is set to brace itself for the most happening event on the Londoners calendar. More than 60,000 visitors are expected to descend upon London’s Brick Lane on Sunday September 11th for the highly acclaimed global mix of music, food, history and culture that make up the Brick Lane Festival.

Music will be taking centre stage at this year’s event as a raft of UK musical talents join the fun-loving festival crowds. Bursting onto the main stage with some of their latest tracks will be the undisputed kings of Indian pop and international superstars Jay Sean and Juggy D. They are joined by music producer and pop sensation of the moment, the Rishi Rich Project, presenting their unique brand of Fusion music that has taken the UK charts by storm.

For something a little bit more traditional, crowds can also expect to see some of Britain’s best Asian R&B and Bhangra groups, whose range of smash hit singles are bound to get the people moving on their feet. Add to this some of Bangladesh’s most famous folk and pop singers, stage dancers, MC and DJ showcase, and it looks like the latest Brick Lane festival is shaping up to be the best one so far.

the ashes - fifth test

England v Australia, 5th Test

The Ashes are the remains of a cricket stump, burnt by the Aussies a century ago to signify the death of English cricket. The two countries have contested the prize ever since, as England's noble sportsmen attempt to avenge this mortal insult. The Australians always win. Or that's been the case until this year.

Freddie Flintoff and Kevin Pietersen have been treating the mighty Aussies like village green amateurs, Shane Warne has rescued his country from certain defeat, England have won a match by the narrowest of margins, and anything could happen.

Oh, who are we trying to fool? England will be thrashed yet again, but at least there have been some close games to add to the excitement. Anyway, no London summer is complete without watching at least a day of this slow-moving and beautiful sport.

cage rage event in london this weekend

Cage Rage
Wembley Conference Centre, Empire Way, HA9 0WS
Map

No-holds-barred fighting arrives in the UK, and it's a very different beast from the high-camp, carefully staged wrestling we've seen before. This is the genuine article: the only moves that are banned are eye-gouging, biting and something called fishhooking (believe me, you're happier not knowing).

Just in case that wasn't hard-as-nails enough, the action takes place in an octagonal cage, where two fighters try to force a knockout over three five-minute rounds. If you're expecting acrobatic, high-kicking kung fu action, you're going to be disappointed. In the normal course of a round, two slabs of muscle and aggression will circle each other, aiming the occassional kick or punch, before descending to the floor to grapple for the rest of the allotted time.

It's all terribly homoerotic, but you probably shouldn't mention that to the scrawny teens, and gym-built giants who make up the bulk of the crowd. And horrible though it is, Cage Rage is a strangely addictive spectacle. It's coming to Sky and the ITV cable channels soon, so this may be the last chance to get tickets for this bizarre sport before the outraged tabloid campaign gets it banned.

Dates: For one day only on Sat 10th Sep 2005
Times: Doors 18:00
Pricing: £25-£100
